Hey Bret!

I watched the game 7 Stanley Cup win last night on the 4th anniversary of the big night. I still get chills every time I watch it… That’s when I found you on Twitter and signed up. Thanks so much for the reply!

Anyways, I was really disappointed last season when the Hurricanes didn’t have a special night in honor of you. You did a lot for our team and I was really in hopes you could be there for a thank-you from the thousands of Caniacs at a game. Sadly, this lame email is all you get!

So glad we got to have you here and that you got your cup. All the best as you in life! You will always be remembered with fond memories in the hearts of us Caniacs on the other side of the country…

Hello Bret,

I have a game used stick from your days in Stl. Is there a way I could ship it to you and have you sign it and return? I would pay for shipping both ways of course. Please reply to rushfan72@charter.net if there is anyway you could make this happen for me.

Thank you,

Chad Denison

Hey Bret,

Don’t know if you are going to read this or not but I wanted to send it to you.

My son is named Brett (two T’s) after you. I am sure you remember the first year you played in Vancouver in 1994 but not sure you remember me and my brother Grant Sjerven? He played goal at St. Cloud State for the three years after you left. He lives in Victoria BC and when you got traded to Vancouver the Coach at St. Cloud State had Grant contact you for tickets to the Canucks games. Grant and I came over for the game 5 win over Dallas in round 2. We came down into the dressing room and met Grants idol Kirk Mclean. We also went down to Richards on Richards to celebrate the win with you and your teammates. You were such a nice guy and we had such a great time that night. My wife was 8 months pregnant at the time and when i got home i said to her “that Bret Hedican is such a nice guy, if we are to have a son i would like to name him Brett:. Well sure enough he was born July 21, shortly after the Canucks missed the Cup!. He is such a great kid, a true defensemen, but without your beautiful skating technique. He definitely has the same heart, is the captain of the Midget A rep team this year, has a great attitude that everyone loves but not enough pure talent to get him any farther.

I wanted to pass along my congratulations for a great career. Unfortuneately most of it was on East Coast so you are not so well known here. I have told the story of my brush with the Canucks and why my son is named Brett so many times that people are probably starting to get tired of it but I won’t. I have coached Brett in hockey and lacrosse (along with his sisters and brother) for past 12 years and have loved every minute of it.

Good luck in your broadcasting persuits. If you are ever in Victoria please give us a call.

All the Best,
Todd Sjerven.

Todd, Thank you for the nice note! It’s great to hear from you and I’m glad to hear you and your family are doing so well! My days in Vancouver were some of my favorite in the NHL, and I will cherish those days, and all the people I met like yourself forever!

Best!

Bret
